What is DBT? A Guide to Balance

DBT helps you accept yourself and make positive changes at the same time.

The "D" in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) stands for "dialectic," which means finding a balance between two things that seem opposite. In DBT, the core dialectic is between Acceptance and Change.

This means fully accepting yourself, your emotions, and your past experiences as they are, without judgment. At the same time, it means committing to making changes and learning new skills to build a better life. DBT teaches practical skills across four key areas to help you achieve this balance.

This toolbox provides an introduction to some key DBT skills. It is for educational purposes and is not a substitute for professional therapy.
