Somatic Stretching

Reconnect with your body and release chronic tension through gentle, mindful movements.

What is Somatic Stretching?

It's less about forcing a stretch and more about a conversation with your body.

Somatic stretching is a practice of slow, gentle, and mindful movements that focus on the internal experience of the body—the "soma". Unlike traditional stretching that often aims to pull or lengthen muscles from the outside, somatic exercises work from the inside out.

The goal is to retrain the nervous system to release chronic, involuntary muscle tension. By paying close attention to your body's sensations, you can identify and let go of habitual holding patterns, leading to greater ease of movement, pain relief, and a profound sense of connection between your mind and body.

Quick Tips for Your Practice

  • Move Slowly: The slower you go, the more your brain can process the new sensory information and create change.
  • Stay Comfortable: Never force a movement or push into pain. The key is gentle exploration within a comfortable range.
  • Focus on Sensation: Pay attention to what you feel inside your body. Where is the tension? Where is the ease? Curiosity is your guide.
  • Breathe Naturally: Allow your breath to be easy and natural. Don't hold your breath unless instructed by a guide.
  • Rest and Integrate: Pause between movements to allow your nervous system to integrate the changes.
